Out of 1400 pictures 5 very important photos do not show on the photo frame but instead there is an queston mark in its place. I have read that it is because they were altered JPEGs, but i simply scanned them and did nothing else. What is weird is these photos are from the same batch and are all black and white.

Will this be sorted out if I change the file type to for example bmp?? Or do they need re-scanning (I hope not as haven’t got a clue where the pictures are now)..

can you view the pics with any other software? if not the pics may be corrupted. If they are I would search on google for programs that try and fix photos. As for the changing file type why dont you just try it and see?

I found one of my old creations.
Long before the introductions of photo frames, I had the urge to share my pictures with family that lived elsewhere.
I created a couple of "frames" from some Compaq pda’s.
These where thick and bulky back then, and the wifi add on where even bigger, but the screen where neat and small
This where one of the results, running on the device where a FTP server so I could update them remotely and in the front end a slide show program that show a new image every other minute or so.
They where fun to create even if I don’t use them anymore.

How do i resize the pictures before putting them on my memory card, for the slide show on the frame..?

resize your image in a photo editing software to the dimensions
720 x 480

if you dont have software

google “online image resizer” and use one of those

The gaps are better, and it’s painted! total cost: .65 for the trim. I had everything else, so that was nice. I do have some left-over trim if I decide to rebuild the frame.

The pictures are on a 15 second loop. I think my next part of this never-ending project is getting a way to display my friends photos on flickr. There is a screensaver called Slickr, but it is Windows only. This thing runs linux. There are a few solutions I have found online, but I want to try it myself.

Wooden Touchscreen Terminal – front

This is a 15" LCD touchscreen with a Celeron 633MHz board with 128MB RAM in a wooden case of my construction. The case also contains the PSU. The bottom part of the screen surround hinges down to allow access to the monitor controls. The button mounted on the base is the power button and indicator light.

It has no hard drive and boots using PXE from my server, then mounts its filesystem over NFS. It runs Debian Linux, xorg, XFCE4, Metacity and Firefox. The button on the left of the panel at the bottom of the screen pops up a screen keyboard.

Currently I’m a bit concerned about the amount of heat that builds up from the PSU (reaches 75°C after a while), an external PSU might be required. Also it tends to run out of RAM when viewing stuff on google video (no swap, no hard drive).

Update: I’ve done some work on the insides, see here. It still looks the same on the outside.

Further update: I’ve switched from the above described software to running KDE. More details here.
